New Shoppers: What it takes to be an excellent mystery shopper

Anonymity: A good mystery shopper is always anonymous. A mystery shopper should be able to visit the same location a number of times without being detected by the store staff. As a mystery shopper you will not take any forms into the store or take notes when they are visible during the shopping trip – thus you must have superior observation and memory retention skills.
Dependability: A mystery shopper must complete their assignments as scheduled and submit the report exactly per the guidelines. Mystery shoppers will be required to check weekly communication by e-mail or voice mail to keep current with any updates and/or changes.
Accuracy: Reports provided by a mystery shopper must accurately reflect the shopping experience. Providing the names of the employees you interact with is an important part of the job. If needed the shopper must be able to recall a specific interaction with an employee and provide us with further information regarding the experience. The mystery shopper is required to double-check all reports prior to submitting, ensuring they contain truthful and factual information.
Availability: Once you submit your report it is reviewed for accuracy and content before being sent to our client(s). If there are questions pertaining to your submitted report they must be responded to within 24 hours.
Scheduling of shops: We schedule most of our mystery shops from 8am - 9pm seven days a week. All shoppers will be provided a ‘window’ of time within which it will be their responsibility to complete their assignment.
Training Required: All shoppers will receive project specific guidelines and a follow up email or telephone call to ensure they understand exactly what they are being tasked with and what constitutes a completed mystery shop.
Objectivity: To ensure every employee who is mystery shopped at a client company is evaluated equally, objectively and fairly there are very clear guidelines by which you report on their performance. Our guidelines will clearly state the requirements of each mystery shop you are assigned.
Conflict of Interest: You cannot accept a mystery shopping assignment for a company where you or a family member, are currently working, or have previously worked. Having worked there or maintaining some other type of affinity means you may not be as objective as you need to be.
Fee: We pay an established fee and expense as detailed within your mystery shopping guidelines for the specific assignment you have been assigned.
